What, Where and Why? Check out our DICE FAQs for Answers

DICE Wedding Films FAQs

This is the Wedding film FAQ for DICE Wedding Films or in other words, the what, where and why? These have been some of the questions that we have been asked the most of in the past, so we thought it would be a good idea to put together a page for you to read through.

How do I make a booking?

To make a booking, please contact us via our contact section on the DICE Wedding Films homepage, you may also call us directly via telephone/mobile. Upon receipt of your wedding details we will contact you to confirm our availability. We encourage you to take all the time you need to fully consider your options and reach a well-informed decision on your preferred choice of wedding film maker, but please be aware that during peak months we often have several enquiries for a single date.

If you have a date set, please feel free to contact us here.

Can we meet beforehand to discuss the details?

The short answer is yes! Approximately 8 weeks before your wedding, a member of the DICE Wedding Film team will contact you to arrange a meeting with you, here you can discuss your exact requirements and the details of your wedding. We will discuss the style, feel and your vision for your wedding film and the best way to capture the spontaneity and spirit of the day. If it is more convenient for you we can liaise by email, telephone, etc. whichever you prefer.

If you would like to book a package today, please feel free to contact us here.

Where are you located and what areas of the country do you cover?

We have two bases in England, one in the in the North West (Wigan) and one in the South East (Crawley), although we are more than happy to film all over the UK. However, there are additional charges if an overnight stay is required. We are also pleased to film abroad having filmed across Europe, so distance is not an issue! This is of course subject to additional charges, please contact us for a quotation. Any additional travel costs will be confirmed at the time of booking.

Why do I need a professional videographer?

Some people use a friend and some people use a family member to record their wedding day. Do be aware that there are countless stories of people running out of room on their memory cards, their batteries dying, missed moments, and the usual ‘shaky cam’ footage. Also, the designated person might not be able to really enjoy the day as much as they should while they are busy recording your wedding. Be sure to adjust your expectations accordingly as you may run the risks of conflicts, poor footage and in worst case scenarios, no footage at all.

A professional videographer will record a video that will be watched often and you will be proud to show others. Your wedding day will only happen once in your life. Your DICE Wedding Film will be a beautiful representation of your day.

If you wish to read what previous couples have said please read them here now.

Do I really need a video if I have a professional photographer?

Both the wedding film and your photos are important, but they serve very different purposes. You can’t frame your wedding video. But you can’t relive your vows, listen to the speeches or the music of your first dance over and over again from a still image.

Your wedding film is a piece of your history captured forever, a lasting memory that contains thousands of sounds and emotions, a true mini story of your special day

I can’t afford the package I’d like… What should I do?

Without a doubt, the best thing to do is get the day covered and captured. We always recommend to capture the moments you really want to have that memory forever. We can always talk about additional edits for additional costs at later dates, but remember, we can’t go back in time and re-shoot the Wedding day, those minutes are lost forever. This is one of the biggest regrets we come across from past couples, that they didn’t get us to film the moments that matter the most.

What will the sound quality be like?

To ensure the best possible sound quality and so that no moments are lost, we use a combination of hidden mics, professional broadcast location rifle microphones and if possible, although not always convenient we also can use tie-clip radio microphones.

Will the filming ruin the atmosphere of the day and annoy our guests?

At DICE Wedding Films we use professional cameras and lenses, this enables us to capture all the emotions of the day from a distance, we always try to be as discreet as we can during the filming of the ceremony, however there may be times when we need to provide a small amount of direction during the course of the day (in much the same way as a photographer would). This is simply to ensure that we capture your day in the best imaginable way, and we keep this to an absolute minimum.

By being as unobtrusive as possible, it allows us to get the best footage we can, if you don’t realise you are being filmed you are more natural and look more at ease in the final edit.

Forms and noise

Always tell your minister or registrar that you have booked a professional videographer for your Wedding day and that you wish to record the ceremony. There may be forms to be filled in by us from the event/organisers, so always make sure you let us have these forms as soon as you possibly can. Also reassure your minister that we at DICE Wedding Films do not operate with loose cable cameras/mics, lights or noise.

Can we choose the music?

Yes! We are more than happy to take suggestions as good music is essential to setting the right tone and feel to your Wedding film. However, unless it is something extremely special to you, we cannot guarantee that we will use it. Music is an integral part of the story-telling process, and in order to tell your story effectively, we need to have full creative control. In addition, not every song can be used, due to copyright and legality issues. These licences can be obtained and costs maybe added to the price of your final Wedding film cost.

Will there be any music copyright issues?

Any music played or hymns sung during your ceremony will probably be subjected to copyright law, as is any music performed or played at your reception. These all require clearances, as does any commercial music added to your film during the edit. All copyrights involved in your wedding film will have been observed by DICE Wedding Films and the fees paid (however some costs may be added to the price of your final Wedding film bill).

Due to strict online music copyright laws, the music for your wedding film/highlights trailer cannot be edited to copyright music. Should you put your film onto any of your social media, the film will most likely be given copyright notices and all music removed from the uploaded file.

Finally, the copyright for the finished Wedding film ultimately remains with us, not you the client. Our own copyright is protected by law; and should you make additional copies, it would be an infringement of our copyright and the copyright licences for which we have paid for on your behalf. Because we keep the masters of your Wedding film for at least a minimum of 12 months after the event additional copies can be made; please contact us at any time for a quotation.

What will the duration of our Wedding film be?

Like any good broadcast programme, the wedding film has to capture all your important moments whilst being interesting and entertaining. As with every couple, every wedding is different and although the duration is determined by the package your booked there are also different factors such as the length and type of ceremony, the entertainment during the day, and the reception.

Typically, a good guide is that highlight films can be between 5-10 minutes, a feature edit is often between 10-25 minutes, a documentary style can run from 30 mins to 1 hour and more. Changes to a standard package can be negotiated but will of course increase the cost.

How long after the Wedding will the film be ready?

Depending on the time of year this can take approximately anywhere between 8 to 12 weeks. We take this time as it allows us to complete the full edit, sound mix, production process and for the final film to be compiled, the added time also give us the opportunity to know that it is totally perfect before sending it out to you!
We will of course keep you updated on the progress of your film and notify you as soon as it is ready. We take the time to make something that you will truly love and will want to watch over and over again.
